Technical Support Specialist - Commercial Vehicle
About the role
We are looking for a Technical Support Specialist to provide expert guidance and support on UK electric bus projects. The role involves assessing technical and market requirements, preparing documentation, liaising with project partners, supporting project management activities, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and technical standards. The position is office-based but will require travel across the UK, occasional travel in Europe, and some trips to China.
Work location: Hounslow, London (travelling is required)
Your key responsibilities will be:
Assess UK market requirements and anticipated electric bus design and technology development requirements;
Develop and promote a product strategy for the UK electric bus market;
Compile and maintain detailed documentation setting out technical requirements for strategic projects;
Where appropriate, identify partner organisations for such projects and develop project plans with such partners;
Draw up project costings and develop funding proposals, applying for external funding where appropriate;
Work with the UK Programme Manager to manage the progress of UK-based engineering projects, including:
Ensuring technical objectives are met;
Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements;
Management of project costs;
Liaison with external parties including partner companies and funding providers such as Innovate UK;
Project timing;
Other related activities and contingent assignments;
Although office based, the role is likely to require travel throughout the UK, some travel in Europe, and occasional travel to China
Ideal candidate profile and capabilities
Minimum Bachelor Degree in electrical, mechanical or automotive engineering, or a related discipline
Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
Excellent time management and organisational skills, requiring minimum supervision
At least 4 years’ experience of engineering project management
At least 8 years’ experience working in an automotive design / development environment or fleet vehicle operations, ideally buses
Experience of compliance with standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 26262, IATF 16949
Good understanding of UK vehicle legislation for M3 category vehicles
Understanding of FMEA and hazard analysis procedures
Computer knowledge and proficiency, including MS Office and MS Project.
