About the Role

As Legal Counsel – Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic & Slovakia, you will provide comprehensive legal support across multiple European markets, acting as a trusted business partner to management and operational teams. You will play a key role in supporting BYD's continued growth by ensuring legal compliance, managing contractual risks, and providing practical legal advice across a broad range of commercial and operational matters.

This position requires a commercially minded legal professional capable of navigating complex cross-border transactions, supporting strategic business initiatives, and working effectively in a dynamic international environment.

Key Objectives & Responsibilities

Commercial Contracts & Business Support

• Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a wide range of commercial agreements, including:

  • Distributor and dealer agreements

  • After-sales service agreements

  • Automotive finance agreements

  • Fleet sales agreements

  • Procurement and supply contracts

  • Operational and business cooperation agreements

• Provide practical legal advice to business teams to ensure legal risks are identified, assessed, and appropriately managed.

• Support commercial negotiations and contribute to the successful execution of business initiatives.

Legal Risk Management & Compliance

• Identify legal and regulatory risks related to business activities and propose appropriate mitigation measures.

• Support implementation and maintenance of legal compliance frameworks across the assigned markets.

• Monitor relevant legislative developments and assess their impact on business operations.

• Deliver legal training and awareness sessions to business stakeholders.

Dispute Resolution & External Counsel Management

• Manage legal disputes and pre-litigation matters.

• Coordinate litigation and arbitration proceedings in cooperation with external legal advisors.

• Oversee relationships with external law firms and ensure efficient management of legal matters.

Corporate & Strategic Legal Support

• Provide clear, pragmatic, and business-oriented legal advice to management and internal stakeholders.

• Support corporate governance, corporate law matters, and strategic business projects.

• Collaborate closely with regional and global legal teams to ensure alignment with BYD Group policies and standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Sales, Aftersales, Finance, Marketing, Product, and Operations teams to support business objectives.

• Facilitate communication between local business teams and international legal stakeholders.

• Support additional legal projects and initiatives as required.

Required Qualifications & Competencies

Education & Experience

• Master's degree in Law from a reputable university.

• Minimum 5 years of professional legal experience, either in-house within an international organization or in an international law firm.

• Experience in the automotive industry is an advantage.

• Demonstrated experience supporting legal matters in Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland, and Austria.

• Strong background in commercial contracts, corporate law, and legal compliance.

Technical & Professional Skills

• Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and legal advisory skills.

• Experience managing complex commercial and cross-border transactions.

• Ability to develop and implement legal strategies and practical business solutions.

• Strong understanding of legal risk management and corporate governance principles.

Languages

• Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.

• Additional European languages such as German or French are highly advantageous.
