Senior Legal Counsel (Data Privacy) – Europe
Shape privacy and digital compliance across Europe at BYD — partner with diverse teams, turn evolving regulations into practical guidance, and help build a business-minded legal function.
Job Responsibilities
1.Advise the business on a broad range of data compliance and privacy legal matters across European operations.
2.Support and help implement compliance frameworks, policies, and internal processes.
3.Provide day-to-day legal advice on data privacy issues, including contractual, operational, and governance questions.
4.Review and negotiate legal documents, including privacy-related clauses, vendor agreements, and other commercial contracts.
5.Partner closely with business, procurement, HR, IT, security, product, and other internal teams on legal and compliance topics.
6.Assist with legal assessments relating to digital, technology, and AI-related matters.
7.Monitor legal and regulatory developments in Europe and translate them into clear, practical guidance for the business.
8.Support internal training, awareness-building, and compliance initiatives.
9.Coordinate with external counsel and local stakeholders where needed.
10.Contribute to building a pragmatic, business-friendly, and high-performing legal function.
Qualifications
1.Qualified lawyer with approximately 5 years of data privacy professional experience.
2.Strong experience in compliance matters, including meaningful exposure to data privacy. Exposure to AI, digital regulation, technology law, platform issues, or related digital topics is a plus.
3.Experience gained in-house or in private practice with strong commercial exposure; law firm experience and strong commercial mindset is important!
4.Understanding of how legal teams support business objectives while protecting the company appropriately.
5.Business-oriented, solution-driven, and comfortable operating close to the business.
6.Able to work independently, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple matters in a fast-moving environment.
7.Practical, confident communicator with sound judgment and strong stakeholder management skills.
8.Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of another European language other than Hungarian is a strong advantage.
