Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Import & Customs Operations Specialist to manage the end-to-end import process of high-voltage (HV) charging equipment from China into Europe. The equipment is shipped dismantled in 40’ High Cube containers and requires precise coordination of customs clearance, technical documentation handling, and inland distribution. The role is critical in ensuring compliant, cost-efficient, and timely delivery of components to final assembly or installation sites.
Key Responsibilities
Manage import operations for HV charging equipment shipped in dismantled form via 40’ HC containers from China to EU ports.
Coordinate customs clearance processes, ensuring full compliance with EU import regulations, HS classification, and duty/VAT requirements.
Liaise with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and port authorities to ensure smooth container handling and release.
Verify and manage shipping documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, certificates of origin, and technical compliance documents (e.g., CE conformity).
Ensure proper classification of multi-component shipments and alignment with customs valuation rules.
Monitor container arrival schedules, demurrage/detention risks, and optimize port dwell time.
Coordinate inland transport to warehouses, assembly facilities, or project sites.
Collaborate with engineering and procurement teams to ensure correct identification and tracking of dismantled components.
Maintain accurate records for audit and compliance purposes, including import declarations and supporting documentation.
Identify opportunities for cost optimization in freight, duties, and handling processes.
Qualifications & Experience
Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience in import operations, preferably in industrial equipment, automotive, or energy infrastructure.
Strong knowledge of EU customs procedures, tariff classification, and import compliance requirements.
Experience handling containerized shipments and multi-part cargo.
Familiarity with technical goods import (e.g., electrical equipment, machinery, or automotive components).
Experience working with customs brokers and freight forwarders across EU ports (e.g., Rotterdam, Antwerp, Hamburg).
Proficiency in ERP systems and customs documentation tools.
Fluent in English; additional European languages (German/French) are a plus.
